Participants
IVEP is a people to people program. If you're someone who wants to explore a different way of life, meet new people, serve God and challenge your own assumptions then this is the program for you! Every year approximately 60 participants are selected from over 25 countries around the world. Each participant spends 11 months living with a Canadian or US host family and volunteering 40 hours per week. The experiences and long lasting friendships that you'll form throughout the year will challenge you to see your culture through new eyes, grow in faith and begin a journey of creating peace and understanding between nations of the world. One thing that we guarantee is that by the end of the year, you will not be the same person who first got onto that plane. What are the requirements to apply?
Preference is given to members of Mennonite or Brethren in Christ Churches. Will I earn money to take home? You will not earn money while participating in this program. You will have a monthly allowance, but it is to be used for personal expenses while on assignment. How do I apply? Contact MCC in your home country for application information. When does the IVEP year begin and end? The IVEP year begins in mid-August and runs until mid-July the following year. How does MCC support the IVEPer through out the year? Every year, approximately 60 young adults from around the world participate in IVEP. Of those, half are placed in Canada and half are placed in the US. throughout the year participants come together for three week long conferences: orientation, a midyear conference focusing on peace building and year end. In Canada IVEPers are supported by Provincial coordinators who plan regular events, and are in regular contact with hosts and partner agencies. In the US IVEPers are supported by Regional coordinators and their National counterpart. How do I contact MCC in my home country? Write to ivep@mcc.org stating your country of origin and we will send you the needed contact information.
This year is the year that changed my whole life, the experience and the love that received in this year is wonderful. I have been changing a lot from the very first time I stepped on the airplane to here. I don't know how to explain it but I do know that my life will never be the same again. ~ Bounpheng, Laos |
