1. What kind of work will I do?Typical positions involve working in nursing home activities, as teacher assistants in schools (elementary teacher assistants and college language assistants), working with computers, working in a daycare, working on a farm, and pastoral assistants. There are no jobs in the medical field (nurses or doctors) due to visa restrictions on distributing medicine. Top
2. Do I have to pay anything? What costs does MCC/IVEP cover?Participants cover the costs of visas and medical examinations needed to get visas. IVEP covers the cost of travel to the United States and Canada and any costs associated with the program such as hosting and medical coverage. The participant is given a small amount of spending money while in the program. Top
3. How long are the placements?The placements are for one full year. Top
4. Do I get to choose where I would work?At the present time you can suggest areas of interests. IVEP staff takes your areas of interest, your educational background, and your work experience into account in making placement decisions. Top
5. How are participants chosen?IVEP participants are chosen in a variety of ways depending on the country you are from. In most countries there is a local representative or MCC office which works with a committee made up of IVEP alumni and local church members. These committees or MCC offices give out application forms and information, collect the applications, do the interviews and send their recommendations to the IVEP program in the US/Canada. 6. How do I apply?Applications are processed in your home country by the local IVEP committee or representative. To receive more information see the Participant page. Top
7. When would I leave?The year begins in early August with an orientation conference in the United States. The year ends in July the following year with a year-end conference. Top
8. Do I have to return to my country?The goal of the program is to provide training for young people so that they can then return home and use it to benefit their home communities. Therefore, participants must return home immediately after the year end conference and stay there for two years. Top |
